About the Car
The Alfa Romeo 8C2300 is a marvel of automotive engineering from a bygone era of automotive and racing history. The engine is two four cylinder engines aligned to make a massive straight 8 cylinder power plant. The overhead camshafts were driven by a central gearing arrangement, four cylinders ahead and four cylinders behind. A Roots-Type blower forced air through the carburetor and into the cylinders to initially produce 140 horsepower. Additional improvements brought this figure to nearly 180 horsepower.
The first prototype Alfa 8C2300 was revealed at the 1931 Mille Miglia. Later, two Grand Prix cars were entered in the Italian Grand Prix. They finished one two at the Monza circuit. Their dominance continued in 1932 by winning the Targa Florio and three back-to-back wins at Le mans. The 8C2300 defeated other marks such as the Mercedes SSK and SSKL, with additional victories at the Spa 24 Hours plus the Monaco Grand Prix.
